Sperm morphology is one of the features of the sperm that helps define the percentage of normally shaped sperm. In many cases, it is a critical factor that couples consider when deciding whether they should use IVF (In-Vitro Fertilisation) to attempt a pregnancy, as it reflects the quality of sperm production or also referred to as spermatogenesis.
Less than 4% of sperm having normal sperm morphology may correlate with male fertility issues. To treat male factor infertility, we use IMSI (Intracytoplasmic Morphological Sperm Injection), a technique where the Clinical Embryologists at Cyprus IVF Clinic analyse sperm samples with a microscope 600 times more powerful than typical IMSI microscopes.
During the IMSI process, Team Miracle embryologists inject the egg with the best quality sperm as selected from the sample provided. This allows us to increase the success of the implantation, as well as the fertilisation and live birth rates.
Besides assisting with male fertility problems, IMSI can also help women with good quality eggs that have had an unsuccessful implantation in their IVF cycles in the past or patients with low fertilisation rates.
